Sue Nichols | Fine Artist

As a native New Mexican and member of a fifth-generation farm and ranch family, Sue Nichols’ artistic inspiration stems from the rich cultural, historical, and geographical landscape of the borderland’s region. The varied aspects of New Mexico, from sunsets, abandoned adobes and stark plains, all combine to tell the story of this unique area. Sue strives to capture the essence and soul of the land, along with its human and animal inhabitants in her work to share with the viewer, some elements of New Mexico culture and history, especially the rural and indigenous ways of life that while endangered, are still present. Nichols’ art portrays a historical reflection of agrarian and indigenous New Mexico, ranging from depictions of past generations and days gone by to present-day youth engaged in agricultural endeavors. With her work Nichols’ strives to inspire a deeper appreciation and understanding of the State’s rich heritage by providing a visual touchstone celebrating a rapidly disappearing way of life.
